My Thoughts on a Goonies Sequel
There is buzz floating around the entertainment world, mostly speared by Corey Feldman who has been the unofficial “cheerleader” for a sequel, to making a Goonies part two. It seems the movie industry continues to try to suck a few extra dollars out of classic movies which usually bomb as sequels but curiousity, nostalgia from the original, and hype seem to be enough drive to pull a little dough. I personally think it would be a horrible idea. I grew up loving The Goonies and would hate to see it ruined by yet another hollywood flop that would embarass the franchise and bring negative connotations to a generational classic.
What are your thoughts? How do you think they could even make a decent movie from the original Goonies plot? All the original characters are somewhere around 40 years old now and both Mama Fratelli and Sloth have since passed away. I’m interested in hearing your comments…
Ring Finders: A New Service
I was contacted by the owner of The Ringer Finders Metal Detecting Service who asked me to check out their site. I have to say, I really like the idea these folks have put together. In essence, the service is a directory of independent metal detectorists by location who can be contacted to request assistance in finding lost items.
The site was created by Chris Turner of Vancouver, British Columbia and he says his goal is to create a global service to help people find their lost valuables. He also said, “I love the search and the excitement of the discoveries I make, and the satisfaction of seeing my customers smile when I present them with their sentimental and valuable pieces of jewelry that they thought was lost forever.”
Have you ever lost a piece of sentimental jewelry? I’m sure many people have. This is an easy way to get connected with people in your area who are willing to help you recover your lost items. You can browse the directory of metal detectorists at http://theringfinders.com/directory/.
Interested in becoming a Ring Finder? There are many metal detectorists who read this blog and I would encourage everyone to get into this directory so we can use our unique skills and equipment to help the community and garner positive exposure to the hobby of metal detecting. To become a ring finder, visit this page http://theringfinders.com/join/ and contact Chris for more information.
Amateur Treasure Hunter Hits Medieval Gold
By: Annie Riddle of Salisbury Journal
Full Story

When amateur treasure hunter Dave Iles dug up a ring near Amesbury, he thought it was a trinket from a Christmas cracker and nearly threw it away.
But it turned out to be a survivor from the late medieval period.
On Tuesday it was declared treasure trove at an inquest in Devizes, and now it will be sent to the British Museum to value.
Dave, a sergeant in the Royal Engineers, struck lucky in January, within two months of taking up the hobby.
It was only his second or third field trip with his friend Steve Henstridge when he found the ring.
“I didn’t have much of an idea what I was doing,” he said. “I went ploughing off on my own, pulling up bits of nails and horseshoes. Steve was a few metres away…

Treasure Island Movie With “Sherlock Holmes” Producer’s Twist
The classic “Treasure Island” story by Robert Louis Stevenson has seen more filming than many actors in the business today. According to IMDB, there are at least 34 movies with that exact title, but who say’s there isn’t room for more? This story has come along way since the original cinematic inception in 1950 with Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins and has seen big names such as Charlton Heston, Christian Bale, Orson Welles, and more.
Now the producer of the 2009 incarnation of “Sherlock Holmes”, Lionel Wigram, has entered the movie scene again in conjunction with Warner Brothers to create a new “Treasure Island” with a flair and edge that is becoming his style. He has competition from a studio called Ecosse so we will just have to wait and see who gets it first.
I personally am excited to see a new exciting version of this age old classic. If you haven’t read the book yet, I highly recommend it. You can find it on Amazon for $13.60 in hardcover the last time I checked.
